Position Responsibilities

Terra Global is seeking an experienced and resourceful M&E Director that is driven by results.  This role requires close coordination across Terra Global’s Natural Resource Management (NRM) Green House Quantification (GHG) teams to develop and deploy field-based monitoring and evaluation processes and procedures to measure the climate, community, and biodiversity impacts of NBS projects and jurisdictional programs. You will establish a strong partnership with all team members and local implementing partners to support data collection processes, contracting and supervision of subcontractors, data analysis and reporting of results.

Responsibilities include enhancing the processes and technology that Terra Global deploys to monitor its portfolio of forestry and agricultural climate change mitigation projects and programs. Reporting to the head of GHG Quantitation and NRM, the M&E Director will develop innovative solutions to gather, analyze and report data from the field. This role will include promoting new technologies and guiding the developing of software to improve the monitoring, management, and information systems for our global portfolio.

The responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating and enhancing Standard Operating Procedures for biomass, soil, household surveys, participatory rural appraisals, and biodiversity surveys according to best practices and market standards
  • Managing the RFP process to identify local contractors to support the collection field data
  • Coordinating with project managers and GHG/remote sensing teams for the sampling design
  • Enhancing field data capture processes and technology 
  • Facilitating training-online and in person
  • Managing local subcontractors to meet deliverables
  • Developing templates and processes for data capture, QA/QC and data analysis
  • Identifying and testing cost effective innovative ways for capturing field monitoring data
  • Support the project managers in developing theory of change and long-term implementation workplans
  • Enhancing Terra’s existing web-based geospatial monitoring system to effectively track performance and provide valuable decision support tools for local implementing partners
Essential Skills and Qualifications

The candidate must have 10 years of monitoring and evaluation experience, 5-8 years working in the NBS sector, and familiarity with the international standards for measuring climate, social, biodiversity and other co-benefits from these projects. Track record for designing and managing field data collection process and development of monitoring technologies.

  • 5-8 years of work experience in the monitoring and evaluation of forestry and agriculture projects
  • Higher education degree in social science, biodiversity, forestry and/or data science
  • Track record for developing and tracking performance and impact indicators for NBS projects
  • Experience in monitoring projects against a logical framework
  • Experience collecting and analyzing field data related to community and biodiversity
  • Understanding the role of gender in M&E
  • Skills in developing tools and software for field-based monitoring
  • Ability to coordinate complex problems involving various constraints (local project conditions, multiple stakeholders, etc.)
  • Skills to work across teams and effectively interact with all project managers and local partners.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with other M&E software tools
  • Excellent written skills in English (technical writing)
  • Ability to travel and work in remote areas
  • Experience working in an international environment, specifically in developing countries
  • Knowledge of at least one foreign language, preferably Spanish, French or Portuguese
  • Passionate about working in the development and the environmental sector
