Terra Global Completes 11th year of GHG Verification and Carbon Neutrality

To deliver on its commitment to carbon neutral operations, Terra Global completed its 11th year of measuring and verifying the greenhouse gas emissions from the company’s operations.  For the reporting year of 2016, Ruby Canyon Engineering performed the third party greenhouse gas emissions inventory verification under The Climate Registry’s reporting program.   Terra Global’s operations were made carbon neutral by the Company retiring offsets to the 2016 emissions using verified emission reductions certified under the Verified Carbon Standard.

As part of Colombia’s tax reform in 2016, the country added a new fuel tax to encourage compliance with their greenhouse gas mitigation goals. The level of the tax is based on the carbon content of fuels, and includes all petroleum products and all types of fossil gas used for energy purposes, provided that they are used for combustion (other than coal). The details of the tax are covered under Decreto 926 de 2017, which went into effect on 1 June 2017.

Terra’s Expert Training at Korea Forest Service REDD+ Workshop

Erica Meta Smith, a forester at Terra Global, was a key lecturer at the REDD+ training workshop at the National Institute of Forest Science in Seoul Korea in March. The Republic of Korea is a key donor investing in REDD+ and sustainable landscapes across a number of Southeast Asian counties. Terra provided expert training for a number of training sessions including, from practices on the ground to accessing climate finance.  The meeting, hosted by Korea Forest Service (KFS), was held to strengthen government capacity in REDD+ development and design.

Terra Holds Kick-off Meeting at the Farmer Veteran Coalition Headquarters with Rangeland Partners to Promote Conservation Practices with Diverse Group of Ranchers

Terra Global along with Farmer Veteran Collation (FVC), Multinational Exchange for Sustainable Agriculture (MESA), Carbon Cycle Institute (CCI) California Rangeland Trust (CRT), and UC Davis met at the FVC headquarters in Davis California to strategize about building a Rangeland protocol.  A key part of Terra Global’s Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) from USDA-NRCS is bringing together range and pasture land experts in order to engage a diverse group of ranchers including those historically underrepresented in GHG market participation. Getting input from and the inclusion of a diverse group of farmers and ranchers is a key step to develop a GHG Protocol and implementation process that truly works for all farmers and ranchers.
